Not wanting to cut up my good fabrics to experiment with this pattern, I purchased an
As I started sewing some of the strips, I realized why we quilters are so willing to pay for our Moda, Hoffman, Marcus Bros, etc quilt fabrics. Not all strips were 2 1/2", the edges raveled as they were not pinked, and the texture was not what quilters have grown to appreciate. AND THE COLORS/PRINTS, WHAT WAS I THINKING?
I couldn't find a name for this pattern, only that it originated from Three Dudes Quilt Shop in Phoenix. This is one of those patterns, similar to Disappearing Nine Patch that starts out as one block, but ends up as something else. I find that fun and interesting.
Later I will sew the blocks together, practice my meandering and then
Before you email me and tell me how beautiful this quilt is, let me tell you that my camera must be fooling the eye because it is really ugly.

Funny post Betty Lou! And a good lesson to pass along.
How frustrating to have out all that work into it and not like the end result. It happens to all of us!
I can say that I have seen the pattern made with more attractive fabrics....
Nice effort though!
At least it was a small quilt - still not worth the time making it in mediocre fabric.

Great pattern... and a great practice quilt that will find a good home, I'm sure!
:)
All your hard work is still lovely. I am not a crafty quilter but I respect you all so much! Have a blessed day! Anne
Funny and sad, Betty Lou! The colors really do look pretty from this distance, but I'll take your word! I learned many years ago from a similar mistake to only buy the high quality fabric from your local quilt shop! Maybe once you quilt it there is a good charity that can use it!
Cheers!
I can't always afford to buy quilt shop quality fabric, but it sure is nicer to work with. Your quilt looks fine to me, but what do I know! LOL
I have been there!! I've been lured down the "bargain isle" so many times, only to PAY DEARLY once I am seated at my machine. But, I can so identify with that feeling that we don't want to cut into the "good stuff" when testing a pattern. What's a girl to do?? :-)
Tell yourself it will look better once it's quilted.
A wise quilter said: It takes just as long to sew an ugly quilt with cheap fabric as it does to sew a beautiful quilt with fabric that will last. It doesn't look that bad to me, but that says nothing about how it feels to you.
I like your quilt. I watched the video and am going to try it for a baby quilt. I am going to use Moda's "It's a Hoot". Thanks for sharing.
PS I love your new Christmas quilt!
I do know what you mean about the quality of fabric having used poor quality fabric before. I still think it looks very nice! It's a pretty quilt.
